Simone Simons Interview

Back in 2007, more precisely in March, I did an interview with Simone Simons from the Dutch band Epica. I’ve never put it online though, so I thought it would be time to do it now. The interview actually is in German but I translated it for the non-German speakers.
I also took a little video which you can find on Youtube, excuse my laughters, please.
Please note that this interview is 3 years old, so some things could be different today.

| Simone: | Ja, aber nur ein paar Mal in Holland (Yes, but only a few times in The Netherlands) |
| Kathy: | Hast du jemals mit deiner Schwester etwas gesungen? (Have you ever sung with your sister?) |
| Simone: | Sie liebt es auch zu singen. Wir singen manchmal aus Spaß zusammen. (She also loves singing. Sometimes we just sing together for fun.) |
| Kathy: | Möchtest du irgendwann mal Kinder haben? Wie viele? (Would you like to have children someday? How many?) |
| Simone: | Sicher, 2-3 wären schön. (Sure, 2-3 would be great) |
| Kathy: | Was ist dein Lieblingsgetränk/essen? (What’s your favorite drink/food?) |
| Simone: | Ich liebe slush-ice (grüner Apfel). Mein Lieblingsessen ist Sauerkraut und Würstchen. (I love slush-ice (Green apple). My favorite food is sauerkraut and sausage.) |
| Kathy: | Welches ist dein Lieblingstier? (What’s your favorite animal?) |
| Simone: | Hund, Hamster und Vogel (dog, hamster and bird) |
| Kathy: | Wie wichtig ist dir der Kontakt zu den Fans? (How important is the contact with your fans to you?) |
| Simone: | Mir ist der Kontakt sehr wichtig! Ohne sie würde einfach etwas fehlen. (It’s very important to me! Without them there would be something missing) |

| Simone: | lustig, spontan und sweet (funny, spontaneous and sweet) |
| Kathy: | Wie würdest du Epica gern in der Zukunft sehen? (How would you like to see Epica in the future?) |
| Simone: | Erfolgreich, viele große Auftritte und Geld verdienen. (Successful, a lot of big shows and earning money) |
| Kathy: | Welche Erinnerungen verbindest du am ehesten mit deiner Kindheit? (Have you got any special memories from your childhood?) |
| Simone: | *lacht* Meine Einschulung! Ich habe mir die Schüler angeschaut und habe mir gleich ausgesucht, wer meine Freunde sein werden und welche ich nicht mögen werde. (*laughs* My first day at school! I looked at all the pupils and said to myself: “These will be my friends, and those are the children I won’t like.”) |

| Kathy: | Dein größter, aber noch nicht erfüllter Traum? (Your biggest, but not yet fulfilled dream?) |

| Kathy: | Worüber ist der neue Albumtitel? (Can you tell us something about the new album title?) |
| Simone: | Es hat mit dem Wort “heilig” zu tun. Mark hat den Titel ausgesucht. (It’s about the word “divine”. Mark chose the title.) |
| Kathy: | Was machst du, wenn du nicht mit der Musik beschäftigt bist? (What are you doing if you’re not busy with music?) |
| Simone: | Ich habe eine sehr große DVD-Sammlung, ich liebe es Filme zu schauen, online zu sein, zu kochen, aufzuräumen oder einfach nur einen Spaziergang zu machen. (I’ve got a really big DVD-collection, I love watching movies, to be online, cooking, cleaning or just taking a walk.) |
| Kathy: | Welche Unterschiede gibt es gegenüber dem letzten Album? (What’s the difference to the last album?) |
| Simone: | Es ist härter, mehr Grunts, es ist auch erwachsener und wir denken, dass es das beste Epica Album sein wird. (It’s more aggressive, there are more grunts, it’s more mature and we think that it will be our best album.) |
| Kathy: | Was machst du meistens vor einer Show? (What do you usually do before you go on stage?) |
| Simone: | Ich höre Musik, trinke Red Bull, wärme meine Stimme auf und wechsle meine Klamotten. (I listen to music, drink Red Bull, warm my voice up and change my clothes.) |
| Kathy: | Was gefällt dir am neuen Album am besten? (What do you like best from your new album?) |
| Simone: | Die Unterschiede zwischen den Songs und die Aggressivität. (The differences between the songs and the aggressiveness.) |
| Kathy: | Was macht dir an deinem Beruf am meisten Spaß? (What do you like most about your job?) |
| Simone: | Die Bühne und die Fans sind einfach super! Außerdem mag ich das Reisen. (The stage and the fans are just great! And I like travelling.) |
| Kathy: | Hast du etwas, was du schon immer mal loswerden wolltest? (Have you ever wanted to say something, you would like to say now?) |
| Simone: | Ja, mein Job ist nicht immer ganz so schön, da du nur wenig Zeit mit deiner Familie & deinen Freunden verbringen kannst. Manchmal kannst du auch nicht bei Familienfeiern dabei sein. Das ist schade! (Yes, my job is not always that nice because you can’t spend much time with your family and friends. Sometimes you can’t be at family celebrations. It’s a pity!) |
